Laura Bright
Amy has an incredible passion for higher education and students. She takes time to understand the complex nature and needs of the students who not only engage in the activities of Beds SU, but of those who cannot or are not engaging. She drives her staff teams to consider methods of operation to break down barriers and create meaningful connections with those they support. Her tenacious, unwavering energy to perform and succeed is evident in all aspects of her work and it is a real pleasure being part of a team who drives change and advocates for those who often go unheard.

Amy was one of my biggest supporters during my time at Nottingham Trent Students Union; I had the pleasure of working with her for two years whilst in my post as VP Activities. We worked together on a number of projects involving student activities, student voice and policies. Amy supported me to be a better VP, and version of myself, by encouraging me to strive for continuous improvement and always ask why. I admire Amy for her can-do attitude and ability to provide innovative ideas to complex problems, which often involve multiple stakeholders. I'm thankful to Amy for being my sounding board, never giving me the solution, but always working with me, providing constructive criticism, and allowing me to find a way forward myself.

Managing staff working in representation, democracy and campaigning, I lead the Union's democratic processes acting as Deputy Returning Officer for all elections, provide training and mentoring for both full and part-time elected Officers, and support the process of carrying out campaigning activity based upon the feedback of our 27,000 members. Having recruited and developed the team from scratch, I have since led them through the development and implementation of a new strategic plan, a Quality Assurance Agency review, and two consecutive years of record-breaking voter turnouts in our annual elections. I was very proud to submit a successful nomination for the National Union of Students' annual awards, in the category of NUS Higher Education Students' Union of the Year 2015. Following our success in 2014 in the category of Officer Team of the Year, and 2013 for Community Impact, this top award also made Nottingham Trent Students' Union the first to receive awards in three consecutive years.
