Working in a therapeutic-based camp for young people aged 7-17 years. Working in 1:1 and in a group. My role at camp Kiah was to help build self-confidence, self-esteem, and teamwork and help young people through a difficult time and learn how to deal with emotions and trauma. Camp Kiah, Emergency Respite, 1:1 Respite and Challenge Accepted are all designed to build self-confidence and self-esteem for the young person; this is achieved by using therapeutic principles through physical movement. I was the team leader for Big Childcare before and after school care. In my role I had to ensure that every morning the children had their morning tea; I would also make sure they were not behind on any homework that had to be done for school. There were games prepared for the children every morning and after school. My other roles were to support and listen to the children if they had any issues in school or at home and make reports if anything had occurred. I also looked after many children with ADHD, Autism and any mental health issues; This led me to the role of a first aid worker. Show less

I had to complete 200 hours of placement for my Cert IV in A.O.D and I decided to do it at Dayhab; I would make the morning tea for the clients the morning that I was there, then after that, I would sit in the back and listen and watch the clients do their group work and talk about issues. I would also do breath, UDS and swab tests every morning with the clients, then do bag searches. If any clients had problems or were emotional, I would take them outside and chat about what was happening with them. I dealt with a lot of issues during my time at Dayhab. I would also take clients to meetings, doctors, and hospitals and sat in on Centrelink phone calls and appointments. Show less
