I am proud to say that I was on the selection team that hired Amy Fisher in 2014 as VIMS’ Director of Development and the Executive Director of the VIMS Foundation. When I was the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer at VIMS, Amy and I worked very closely together to develop new institutional and foundation financial strategies, expand our government and public relationships, and advance the institution’s strategic plan. Amy joined our team in a time of significant transition for the Development Office. However, she jumped right in and confidently took the lead in merging three volunteer boards into one, worked with the President of the Foundation and the VIMS Dean-Director to restructure the committees into much more effective ones, and successfully led a reorganization/merger of the Development Office and Outreach Office to create the Office of Advancement. All of this was astonishingly accomplished in her first three years. Deservingly, Amy was then promoted to Executive Director, VIMS Advancement and VIMS Foundation. In addition to her extraordinary leadership skills, Amy is a phenomenal fundraiser. She brought in numerous large gifts and expanded VIMS’ donor base. Amy was also able to reengage the faculty in Advancement activities that has led to the all-important faculty buy-in. Amy is exceptionally intelligent, has keen intuition, and is one of the most hardworking people I have come across in my career. Any organization would be fortunate to have Amy Fisher on their leadership team!

Amy is a brilliantly skilled creative and talented strategist and a big picture thinker. She has a great ability to create a plan and to execute that plan. She can foresee obstacles and tackles them before they slow progress. I worked with Amy for 4 years and one thing that impressed me most is her keen intuition and leadership style. She works great in a collaborative team environment and enjoys brainstorming ideas with her team. She is also very self-driven and motivated to succeed. In our time together I saw her merge two boards, double her staff and raise one fo the largest gifts our team had ever seen. As a manager, she is a great listener and is always encouraging her staff to take on new challenges, to grow their individual programmatic sphere and to develop leadership skills that position them to think big and to act on their inspirations and aspirations. Amy has a great sense of humor and a fun loving spirit. She is an asset to any team.
