    • Datacenter Operations Specialist
      • Jul 2009 - Jan 2013

At Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, I supported approximately 4,000 virtual and physical servers and over 60,000 customers. I was the team lead for the onsite security, directory and authentication, and electronic mail services for three physically independent networks. For security services, my responsibility was to develop and coordinate the implementation of new security policies, standards, and products for more than 20 sites. This was an enormous effort due to the involvement of many individuals with varying levels of prioritization and expertise. For the authentication and electronic mail systems, my role was to ensure highly available, organized, and current service for a diverse, distributed client base. Finally, as a product architect, I was engaged in designing the implementation of PKI and certificate services within the data center. This was to support secure communication and authentication for nontraditional users. My methodology for any project was to gather requirements from teams, customers, and management and then research and test different tools and their configurations to determine which would best support the environment and goals. Beyond just the application installation, configuration, and maintenance, I considered factors such as power consumption, ventilation requirements, and financial impact long term. Once evaluation was completed, I presented the pros and cons associated with each and made a recommendation on how we should proceed. Regardless of what the final decision was, I either deployed the solution, lead the team, or provided expertise to the team tasked with implementation and kept leadership abreast of progress. • Sep 2006 - Dec 2009

As a senior level consultant, I worked for banks, colleges, local government, health care, and retail. Each one presented unique requirements and priorities. I developed and delivered solutions for them. The exact work to be performed was determined via talks and documented in a statement of work and detailed project plan. The skills required included knowledge about server hardware platforms, associated storage components, and the networking pieces that provided the communication backbone for the applications to be hosted. Specific tasks I completed include installing server racks, servers, routers, switches, SAN equipment, and power components, setting up or reconfiguring directory services, network services, PKI, email, printers, file shares, and custom applications, applying industry best practices and optimizations, providing documentation and training as well as follow-on support, and developing Business Continuity Plans and implementing the associated technical components. Non-project work included assisting customers with Tier III customer support issues, completing audits, and providing technical support during public engagements. Show less

As a Senior Systems Engineer for JANUS Research Group, I supported Joint Forces Command by completing projects to either upgrade or add functionality. For instance, I updated Joint Forces Command’s cluster services, migrated traditional server computers to blade server technology, and implemented certificate services in support of secure authentication as well as secure access to VPN, wireless devices, and web services. In addition to projects, I regularly performed server, SAN, and network maintenance, updates, and optimizations. The final facet of my job was Tier III support and troubleshooting. Show less

I was a Network Engineer working as a contractor for Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command. This position involved maintaining WAN connectivity. When connectivity problems arose, I used networking tools to troubleshoot and coordinated with other network teams to resolve them. I also supported Citrix access to various programs in the command. I published the applications, configured user profiles, and granted appropriate application permissions. I trained customers on the process of configuring their Citrix client and applications. Their understanding of the process resulted in fewer problems and better trouble analysis. Finally, I set up new LAN connections in our building, fixed Internet Explorer problems, and worked on printers. Show less
