Print Production Coordinator/Program Editor (Regional Theatres)
-
Jan 2009 - Mar 2020
Both aspects of my job required supreme attention to detail, respect for deadlines, and the ability to keep multiple projects moving forward. I collated ads, performance details and editorial content to make Playbills for 40 venues across the United States, working with 3 production managers, 6 program editors, and 3 printers. I was also a program editor, using InDesign to lay out the performance details (text and images) for 7-16 shows per season at Pennsylvania Ballet, Minnesota Orchestra, Walnut Street Theatre and Broward Center, paying special attention to formatting and deadlines.

Assistant Editor of Playbill Broadway Yearbook series
-
2004 - Sep 2014
I was the primary proofreader and copyeditor for Playbill's ten Broadway Yearbooks, each packed with photos, cast info and trivia from every show that ran during the season. As proofreader I made sure that every Michelle and Michele, every Jonathan and Jonathon was accurately identified. I verified dates, plot points, photo captions and credits, and also monitored consistency of fonts, spacing, styling and myriad other details. And the index was a beast!

• Coffee-table/reference book recommended for holiday giving in the New York Times and O–The Oprah Magazine • Featured on NPR Weekend Edition and on American Popular Song maven Jonathan Schwartz's Sunday show • "The Complete Lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein II is breathtakingly comprehensive and useful and rich and elegant" — Mark Horowitz, author of Sondheim on Music and senior music specialist at the Library of Congress I compiled and annotated more than 850 lyrics from 60 stage and film projects, including the world-renowned Oklahoma!, South Pacific and The Sound of Music as well as the little-known and hardly missed efforts of his slump in the 1930s — with extensive commentary from Hammerstein's letters and draft scripts. About a quarter of the book was previously unpublished material, including cut songs. This long-term freelance project required study of unpublished music manuscripts, lyric sheets and draft librettos, correspondence, programs, sheet music and films. I used archival collection at the Library of Congress, New York Public Library, the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, the Margaret Herrick Library (AMPAS), USC Cinema-Television Library, UCLA Music Special Collections, Tams-Witmark, Shubert Archive, the British Library, and the Museum of Television and Radio (since re-named The Paley Center).

Archivist

Before the Music Division of the Library of Congress acquired the creative materials of the late Broadway writer, Jonathan Larson's family needed to know exactly what was in the filing cabinets of script drafts from past projects and on hundreds of audio tapes. I was recommended to the Larsons because of my in-depth analysis and reports on Irving Berlin's correspondence and unpublished song files. As I read and listened, I created a database to consolidate details about each song and each project (writing credits, dates, version, performances, recordings, notated music). Later I wrote a Catalog of Works describing and dating every project (book shows, revues, film, scores for dance, pop songs), with an alphabetical song list, songs categorized by subject and musical style, chronology, and quotes from Jonathan about his work. • Wrote biographical essay of Larson for American National Biography Online • Co-wrote chapter on Larson and “Rent” for The Writer’s Muse (Garland, 2002) • Interviewed Jonathan Larson's sister and father for Rent 20th Anniversary feature on Playbill.com
