The city central location of Everyman Screen on the Green, made it a cinematic and cultural hub of London, host to many film festival, premiere and live performance events. Working here as a team member enabled me to further enrich my existing skills of customer service and food handling, as well as allowing me to develop a new set of skills. The position required me to work on the bar, recommending and selling alcohol, as well as making cocktails in a very fast-paced environment – making drinks and serving crowds of around 100 people during events. In order to provide a welcoming and luxurious cinema experience, a big part of my job was greeting customers, showing them to their seats and making announcements before films to welcome everyone and introduce the viewing. I was also fully kitchen trained and learnt how to make gourmet artisan pizzas, hot dogs, sharing platters – including all cinema-made guacamole and salsas – sundaes, milkshakes and coffees.

Worked in this committee to bring light to systemic issues, such as racism and microaggressions, on the UCL campus and, alongside fellow members of the committee, discussed ways to correct lack of accountability from the university. I worked with the committee to:- To ensure that department wide ethnic/racial minority student officers are available for students of colour to anonymously report to about any race-related issues faced on campus- Demand more valuable responses and statements from our department (UCL Institute of the Americas) in light of resurfacing of global social movements, such as BlackLivesMatter, which detail how the department and its staff are willing to check their own accountability and provide assistance for students affected- Encourage professors to ensure that their reading lists were absent of bias, intersectional and included of authors/academics from varied backgrounds, races, genders and sexual orientations
