I have been directly involved in both numerical and experimental studies on the effect of soluble minerals in the Hydro-Mechanical behavior of an embankment dam. This research project with practical implementations was funded by this company. In this research project, my coworkers and I have developed a new testing device to study the effects of dissolution on the compressibility and permeability of gypsiferous soils. In the experimental parts of the study, I have modified an “oedometer test set” to enable measuring both mechanical and flow properties of soil specimens during the dissolution of minerals. In addition to experimental studies, I have developed a calibrated numerical model to do some calculations for future prediction of the embankment dam behavior under different conditions. The duties I have been in charge of during my employment period include, but not limited to:• Data gathering, collecting various forms of data pertaining to the research project• Conducting research literature reviews• Collaborating with other researchers• Assisting in the construction of tests• Conducting analyses of data, providing interpretations, drawing conclusions, and discussing with the principal investigator• Performing numerical calculations using the GEOSTUDIO software• Preparing various technical reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative contents• Presenting research materials
