Spencer's at the Waterfront is one of Pearle Hospitality's thriving restaurant properties located on the lake shore in Burlington, ON. As a Server working with Pearle Hospitality, it is expected that I follow a specific guideline for steps of service, which go above and beyond basic standards of service. At Spencer's, I work as a server in the main dining room as well as occasional banquet shifts in the large observatory, which mostly consists of corporate functions and weddings. It is my job to ensure all guests leave having had a positive experience with us. During regular lunch or dinner service, is my job to help break down the menu to guests. I assist guests with pairing wine when necessary as well as executing proper wine service at the table. I take orders from guests and ensure they are sent to the kitchen and properly timed. Throughout my shift I help other servers expedite food to their tables, ensure all side work is completed such as polishing cutlery and glassware, cut bread and butter, keep our server station clean, clear and reset tables, and help with any set up for future events. When serving a wedding or other function in the observatory, the biggest part of my job is presenting hors d'eourves to guests, taking their dinner orders, and helping expedite and run food to tables in a timely manner. Throughout a banquet shift we are constantly clearing tables and keeping our station organized while preparing for future events. As I said previously, the most important part of my job is to always ensure that the guests are satisfied during their time with us. Show less

  • Au Pair - Melbourne, Australia
    • Melbourne, VIC, Australia
    • Au Pair (Live-in Nanny)
      • Sep 2012 - Sep 2013

When I took a position as a live-in Au Pair in Melbourne, Australia I was responsible for getting there on my own and organizing flights, a work visa, travel insurance, a cell phone, and an overseas bank account. As an Au Pair I integrated myself into a family while taking on many new responsibilities and facing many challenges. I cared for three young boys who were ages 3, 6, and 9. I was responsible for getting them up in the morning, getting them dressed, making their breakfast, making their lunches, and taking them to school. The three year old was usually home with me during the day and I was responsible for taking him to various activities and play dates as well as caring for him during the day. After school I was responsible for picking the other two children up, making dinner for the family, getting the children bathed and into their pyjamas, and some nights putting them to bed. During the day I was also responsible for ensuring the house was tidy and organized, doing laundry, grocery shopping, and other chores such as emptying the dish washer and taking out the garbage. On weekends I often babysat for other families in order to make extra money. I also had the opportunity to travel with the family overseas to help babysit in Thailand and Hawaii. Aside from being an Au Pair, I also grew in many other ways. I was forced out of my comfort zone when driving on the other side of the road in a big city or finding new ways to make friends. I learned to be extremely independent and confident as I was alone and would explore the city by myself, go to restaurants and movies alone, join yoga classes and rock climbing alone etc. Overall the growing experience I had as an expat and an Au Pair is something I will always be thankful for.
