As the onboard engineer my main role is to keep the boat running and reliable. Fixing and maintaining our Yanmar engine, Kohler generator and Master Volt & C Zone electrical systems are essential to keep our crew and boat safe. As crew I am also heavily involved with sailing Maiden between various destinations and when visitors would like a day sail. The Maiden Factor is not just about sailing, that would be easy. This three year tour is about supporting girls around the world through STEAM education. Helping girls get into these core subjects could positively change their futures. Currently 130 million girls do not have access to an education and the Covid pandemic has caused this number to increase by another 11 million. The funds we raise will go towards educational resources, sponsoring girls through education and charities that share our values. Empower a girl, change the world! Show less

At Des Gosling Mobility I adapt vehicles for the disabled to give them the ability to drive and their Independence. I help design products for the company using 3D CAD software Solidworks and also fit the products in the workshops. This position gives me a great understanding of hands on engineering whilst still developing my knowledge of designing parts and products. In this position I helped to redesign cable accessories to meet the needs of the customer and company requirements. Bringing new ideas to the current product range, with a fresh set of eyes this increased the companies ability to compete in the current market. This role also gave me a chance to see into the products ability to withstand testing of all different varieties such as tensile testing, short circuit testing and salt spray testing. Two of the ideas i produced for the company are now undergoing the company patent process. Show less
