Cardiovascular research project sponsored by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and done under Dr A.J. Stewart and Dr S.J. Pitt. “circulatory zinc ‘speciation’ and its relevance to cardiovascular disease”. I also did a short project on "lipidomics in diabetes". Writing experience: 1) 5 research articles and 5 highly cited reviews. 2) Grant applications: obtained a £680 travel grant and a £7,386 6-month stipend. 3) Designed an infographic presenting the lab to the general public. 4) Course design and teaching: - academic skills workshops to high school students; - science lectures to the local community. Public speaking targeted at a wide range of audiences: 1) Politicians and charities: - BHF lab visits with members of the British and Scottish parliaments; - BHF Scottish Parliament Reception. 2) Scientific community: - poster presentations at 5 national and international conferences, winning a presentation prize; - regular research talks in St Andrews. 3) General Public: - a BHF fundraising event; - took care of BHF stand during a science festival; - a science talk given to high school students. 4) Students: teaching, lab-practical demonstrating, and mentoring and training 5 students in the lab.
