As an intern is is my job to assist the zoological team at Bristol Aquarium in the daily running of the aquarium. I am responsible or the maintenance of the exhibits ensure the water qualities and conditions of the displays is kept to a high quality. I ensure that the welfare of the animals I hold responsibility for is up kept to the highest of standards, and I am aware that many of these animals are considered endangered in the wild and therefore have laws surrounding them and their care. This internship has enabled me to develop my communication skills through the presentation of daily talk and feeds to wide range of audiences. These talks also provide a good platform for education through informing the public of various threats to marine and freshwater system, such as over fishing, sustainability, as well as informing the audience of ways that they can help these causes. A week at Chemtech, an off-shoot of the Environmental Resource Group, taught me skills including communication between different businesses and within different departments, such as technical and sales. I gained knowledge regarding how many chemicals are disposed of in a safe manor and how different substances are classified and stored. A placement at British Waterways included both office work and field work, and over the two weeks I was there I developed many skills, including independent working and working in the field. This experience taught me the importance of maintaining ecosystems, and the dangers of species invasion. This field work also gave me the chance to use some ecological techniques.
