SJSCH is an annual week long summer residential holiday for young people with disabilities aged 10-18 of which I have been part of the team since its inception in 2014. Starting off as a one-to-one helper paired with the children day to day the role included personal care, following schedules, joining in with activities such as swimming and rock climbing, and being creative during downtime to keep the young people happy and occupied. After 3 years in this role I was one of only 3 people promoted to Group Leader. My role involved overseeing my group of helpers and the children they have been paired with, organising schedules, briefing and debriefing my group at the beginning and end of the day, and keeping everyone informed of what is happening and what they need to do. As their Group Leader I was also the go-to for my group during more challenging moments when they needed either another pair of hands or someone with more experience. Show less

I worked on the floor as a waitress, as well as sometimes being behind the bar when necessary. I was solely responsible for the care of customers for breakfast, whilst simultaneously getting the pub and restaurant ready for lunchtime service where more staff arrive and I move into working as part of the team. I take great pleasure in giving my all to my customer service to ensure that customers have a pleasant experience when they arrive, be it for a meal or just coffee or drinks.
