Peach Legal was founded with a business perspective that very few (if any) other legal firms can provide—my cofounder is an active C-level executive for startups, and is a former investor who helped deploy >$300m across a portfolio of investor clients ranging from Seed to Series C and beyond. This was my final act as an employee at a traditional law firm. I learned many invaluable lessons, the least of which is that the best lawyers value people. Period. In this role, I supported dozens of founders in raising >$250m from venture capital investors, ranging from Pre-Seed to Series A, as well as many M&A deals. I realized that my strengths are best aligned with early-stage entrepreneurs who are first and foremost looking for a legal supporter & adviser, and that there are no law firm models in existence that scratch this particular itch for entrepreneurs (for entrepreneurial attorneys or for CEOs alike). At this firm, I saw first-hand how inefficient the traditional law firm model is, and how that inefficiency manifests itself as unnecessarily high legal bills and founders’ frustration navigating outdated systems. I founded Quip Legal as a moonlighting practice while I worked as a startup attorney at Doida Crow—this was my first foray into entrepreneurship for myself. I caught the bug and haven't looked back. With Quip, I realized that CEOs struggle to find affordable legal support for standard corporate documents, so they often employ a self-serve legal model (*cough* LegalZoom) that creates headaches and sometimes disasters down the road. I fell in love with the idea that I could support entrepreneurs by providing even the most basic legal advice, and that there truly are zero options for early-stage CEOs who want to run their businesses the right way on a budget. I was frequently thrown into challenging startup situations and grew faster than I knew possible. At DCVF I learned the ropes of investing—we supported Pre-Seed founders in their quests to fundraise & make actionable progress on their businesses. Our top Pre-Seed investment is currently marked at >15x and has scaled to ~$50m ARR. I carry this perspective into every conversation I have with startup founders, because I remember what it felt like to make this pre-seed investment decision that is currently marked at >15x. It is so difficult to convince investors that you have a winning idea, and this situation was no outlier—we almost passed on the opportunity, but we glimpsed the team’s potential through a dense forest of risk and it ultimately paid off. But despite this value-alignment, I quickly realized that the Corporate world was not for me. Before Law School, I held a variety of character-building blue collar jobs such as a Direct Support Professional for adults with developmental disabilities, a Host/Bartender at a local restaurant, and in Customer Service at a local clothing boutique. Clearly, my 4-year degree in Chemistry was put to good use during this period (well, I guess Bartending was a decent application).
