Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia (HIT) is an adverse drug reaction resulting in an unusual autoimmune response with serious potential consequences, including fatalities. Similarly, Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) is a disorder resulting from an acquired deficiency of enzyme ADAMTS13. Early detection and appropriate management is crucial to obtaining a positive outcome for both conditions. Diagnosis of HIT and TTP can be supported by clinical scoring (4T's clinical scoring for HIT), identification of the correct signs and symptoms, positive screening laboratory testing (enzyme immunoassays), and confirmed by so-called functional assays, allowing for appropriate intervention. The purpose of this study is to inventory the performance of HIT testing and ADAMTS13 testing at the William Osler Health System while promoting the Choosing Wisely initiative within the hospital community with a focus on appropriate laboratory testing. In 2017, the Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness (PMC) was opened to the Peel Region, and a newly formed Maternity Care Clinic (MCC) was initiated as part of the William Osler Health System's Women's and Children's Department. This novel clinic was designed to take a collaborative approach to prenatal care. The MCC is comprised of multidisciplinary team of multiple family physicians whom incorporate intrapartum care into their practice, specialized nursing staff, lactation consultant, social workers, psychiatrists and medical learners. This study aims to assess the current structure and care provision of the MCC to support its ongoing procedures and performances, and identify areas of improvement from the patient's standpoint. Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) is an autosomal dominant genetic disease resulting in excess cholesterol in the circulation increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. The aim of the FH Canada registry is to improve the detection and management of individuals and families with FH in Canada. My role in this project is data analysis of patients that are under long term care for HoFH at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montréal. This initiative aims to analyze the causes of unique clinical presentations of patients with HoFH such as the calcification of the aorta. A publication detailing a case study of a patient with HoFH is currently underway in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology. Show less

The forkhead transcription factor, FOXL2, regulates pituitary follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) synthesis. FOXL2 is the most abundant forkhead transcription factor in FSH-producing gonadotropes. The second most abundant is FOXP2. In this project, we examined whether FOXP2 regulates FSH synthesis or other activities in gonadotrope cells.
