The YVCF's role is to convene people, organizations, and resources to bring about change and a positive and lasting impact in the lives of residents. For more than two decades now, the YVCF has been identifying opportunities and leading or influencing change in education by providing training, support, and financial assistance to first-generation and low-income students and the organizations and institutions serving them; by investing in early childhood education, by addressing the social determinants of health such as food insecurity, education, transportation, housing, and economic prosperity. And continue to support efforts that increase community engagement and vitality. The YVCF supports charitable organizations and community groups working in the community who are essential partners in change.

Two initiative's under the Yakima Valley Community Foundation, Act Six is a full-tuition, full-need community leadership award. Act Six is partnered with Pacific Lutheran University and Heritage University. Scholars who are selected go through an intensive training the year prior to college, equipping them to support each other, succeed academically and grow as service-minded leaders and agents of transformation.Ready to Rise Initiative is support program that is partnered with Central Washington University and Yakima Valley College. Ready to Rise Yakima Valley helps diverse emerging leaders thrive and grow together on the journey through college while equipping them for leadership in their community.
