Natural Resources Planning Specialist
-
Sep 2022 - Present
I am currently developing and revising integrated natural resources management plans for the U.S. Military. My role is to use my knowledge of natural resources processes to develop short and long term goals based on the natural resources of an installation and the objectives of the installation, without interfering with the military's mission while also sustaining the natural resources to ensure future generational use of the area. Each military installation and plan presents unique challenges in diverse ecosystems to overcome. I strive to give the best management recommendations possible, while developing or updating text so the installation can have their projects thoroughly explained and funded. Show less

Wildlife and Outdoor Recreation Technician
-
Jan 2021 - Aug 2022
As a wildlife and outdoor recreation technician, I performed a variety of duties across Eglin AFB, including shorebird surveys, sea turtle nest surveys, invasive species surveys, nuisance animal dispersal and deterrents, RCW emergence surveys, RCW nest checks, gopher tortoise translocation, gopher tortoise habitat restoration and pen construction, reticulated flatwoods salamander surveys, and many other tasks. I also led several herbicide crews and conducted educational outreach events for visiting contractors on reducing the spread of invasive species during their time at Eglin. I worked alongside of several cooperators and other agencies, such as USDA, USFS, and USFWS, conducting BASH management efforts, invasive and nuisance species control; forest inventory and plot stem count surveys; and ESA habitat restoration efforts and surveys.I worked on executing several permit requirements to allow the military to continue their missions, such as reviewing 813 and 103 permits, FONSI statements, and USFWS citations that would be filtered through the Natural Resources Program. My hard work and drive led me to updating and revising the 5-year Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan for Eglin AFB towards the end of my contract.
