  I received a long-term substitute position in the 8th grade math department at Byers Middle School. My master’s program student teaching ended on May 2 and did not require me to be in the classroom any further. With the strong relationships that I had created with the students I did not want to leave them right before the end of the school year. With my program ending this gave me the opportunity to accept a long-term subbing position. This allowed me to gain more knowledge in other content areas and end the school year with the students that I have grown close with throughout the semester. Show less

  I am completed my student teaching as a Junior High Social Studies teacher at DSST: Byers Middle School. Byers is a high-performance National Blue-Ribbon school located in Denver, Colorado. Byers placed in the top 5% of all Colorado schools for overall test scores, is widely considered to be one of the leading open enrollment STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) schools in the United States, and has become a destination for educators nationwide. DSST schools are home to the highest performing and highest growth secondary schools in Denver Public Schools, and to date, 100% of our graduates have been admitted into a college or university. This experience expanded my skills and abilities to plan and administer a high-end educational experience.   Gateway high school is a low-income high needs school where many students have faced traumatic backgrounds. There is an emphasis on restorative justice and making sure students stay in the classroom. Gateway is a very divers school with many students who barely speaking English, and many others below their grade level in reading and other educational abilities. The restaurant is known for having a huge and diverse wine collection with farm to table food. I learned all about every variety of wine and the best way to sell them.   I was a waitress at Oscars for 4 months before I transferred to UNC. I was an excellent worker providing fast and efficient service to my customers and was even able to break their sales record by selling $1,800 in one day. I became a very good server, and understand how to provide the type of personalized and professional customer service that would apply to any work environment. I woke up at 4:15 AM to be at work, and worked from 5:45 A.M.-3:30 P.M. I would then go to track practice at 4 PM for another 3 more hours. I learned how to work very hard and push through long days.
