I met Amanda through an interview -- it was the second year of Indy Maven, and she and Leslie were in the beginnings of building a community that Indianapolis did not realize we needed. She offered insight from her career and how women can truly be so influential to one another...I'm not sure she realized the immense influence she had on me in those short thirty minutes. Since then, I have had the honor of serving on the board of the business she helped turned into reality. I've also gotten to share time with her as we relive war stories of marketing madness, idea brainstorming, and campaign strategizing. Her work with SWISH for March Madness with the Indianapolis Arts Council was one for the books. Leading the city in sports but bringing our arts community to life and on the frontlines for tourists and the city to experience was like none other. When I asked her about the inspiration for it, she spoke so eloquently about the way we curate for not only those we hope to become part of our audience but those that are already in it. Since meeting her, I remain in awe of her confidence and knowledge in the field and industry. I've gotten to see her work in teams and individually, and her impressive nature remains consistent. I'm excited to continue to bear witness to all she creates and pursues.

I didn't know what I didn't know when Amanda hired me for my second go-round at The Star. It could have been a disaster but for her confidence, steadfastness and compassion. Amanda has a perspective. She's solid. You know where she stands and she trusts herself. But she's willing to move when presented with a compelling case, new information, new experience. She led me to the best version of my professional self by demonstrating what it is to be strong without being rigid. Amanda is loyal. She doesn't play politics, she doesn't whisper. She sets expectations and provides the support needed to exceed them. You know where you stand with her and you trust her to go bat for if necessary, to quiet any whispering in and about her team. She led me to the best version of my professional self by demonstrating what it really means to be the captain of a team. Amanda understands people and cares about them. You know that you matter to her and that your deposits in the bank of goodwill (hat tip, Jennifer Morlan) can be drawn on when your humanity interferes with your productivity. This is also incredibly important when it comes to her work product because you simply can't make things well for others if you don't sincerely care about them, what they want and what they need. She led me to the best version of my professional self by showing me that the hard part - and the truly rewarding part - of work is the people you're with. I'm damn lucky that she wanted me to work for her and proud that I had the chance to.
