I coordinate the professional development projects of the Early Childhood Iowa state systems. There are three state professional development leadership teams (ovals) that focus on Early Learning, Family Support, and Health, Mental Health and Nutrition. Within each of these leadership teams an integration of early childhood special needs must be incorporated within all work products and PD components. My role is to bring these leadership teams together, develop agendas to address Implementation Plans, and represent the mission of Early Childhood Iowa. In my T.E.A.C.H. Counseling role I support full-time childcare teachers in early childhood, school-based preschool teachers, and licensed family childcare providers continue their education in early childhood with the financial support of T.E.A.C.H. scholarships. Beyond the financial supports of the scholarship I advise participants through their coursework plans while they work towards a CDA credential or associate degree. I partner with community colleges and early childhood programs to support early childhood educators/providers to continue their education to enhance the educational and care experiences for young children. As a respite and supportive community living direct care provider I partnered with families with children with special health care needs. I cared for children from infancy up to young adults up to the age of 21, with special needs. Needs varied from caring for children with autism, communication delays, behavioral needs, to physical disabilities. I partnered with the family to understand their need to support their child. I recorded progress sheets and supported children with their individual developmental goals. Show less

      • 2005 - 2005

During this opportunity I worked with second grade students to increase their math and reading skills.I met with students individually in their classroom. I also worked with the students during project work focused on math and reading skill development. I integrated math skills into the tutoring experience because the students were struggling with comprehending math story problems. By working with reading comprehension the students were also able to be more successful with their math assignments. Show less
