Design Director

Sep 2021 - Apr 2022
I joined this club in my first year at Queen’s as a general member where, in teams, we programmed websites for clubs or local businesses in Kingston. After, I wanted to become further involved in my second year so applied and got the position of Design Director. I was responsible for designing our social media posts and made the website designs for the developers using Figma.

I am teaching young soccer players (U4 - U6). We play skill based games with a focus on soccer to teach them footwork, team skills, and rules. Not only does this enhance their understanding of the sport, but it also builds up their confidence. I am teaching young soccer players (U4 - U6). Worked as a Junior Front-end Web Developer in the Engineering Department and was tasked with enabling users (students) to customize their avatar to encourage further interaction with the app. My project sparked many motives and plans to improve student satisfaction and engagement. In all, it was an amazing internship as learned new technologies such as Vue.js, made many valuable connections, and directly impacted users by providing opportunities for joy within their educational journey. Furthermore, I was put on a squad, worked alongside many amazing devs, and when my internship concluded I received an offer to extend my placement another several weeks and accepted.

Frontend Developer

May 2021 - Aug 2021
Worked in the Product department and updated their web pages from Ruby on Rails to Tailwind components. In a few weeks, I learned TypeScript, Tailwind, and a bit of GraphQL in order to then modernize the frontend code and functionalities. This was an amazing summer internship as I expanded my knowledge in different dev tools and made many valuable connections along the way. Joining this club as a general member, I was able to further develop my programming skills coding a website with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, through my introduction to React node.js. This club was a lot of fun and was a great way to be involved in my first year at University especially during the pandemic! Programmed and designed the FVP Startup Feedback Form page on the website in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. I also worked alongside the team to assist in designing the new website, and made many presentations summarizing our terms work and results. This was an amazing experience as not only was I able to make many valuable connections, but I was also able to shadow as a Junior Analyst - making calls with CEOs to expand our database. Product & Technology Internship
-
May 2019 - Aug 2019
My cooperative placement at TouchBistro was under the guidance of like minded and inspiring professionals. I got the chance to shadow and work alongside members of the Product and Technology departments. I was fully immersed into multiple different careers including Development Operations, UI/UX Design, Product Management and QA Analysis. I designed wireframes using Sketch, programmed and finalized the designs into apps, tested the products, and created surveys. Throughout the duration of my placement, I visited restaurants which have implemented their products and learned how to enhance and troubleshoot any problems. I was very eager to apply my programming, artistic and personable skills into my internship. I was then hired for the rest of the summer working as a Product Designer.

This was an amazing experience. I shadowed an entrepreneur, Lisa Shields, and sat in meetings with unique technology startups. Participated in evaluating investment opportunities and provided a unique review of start-up pitches. This experience was truly eye opening as I left knowing what it takes to start a company.
