Now with a team of 60+ direct reports, I also manage the day to day operations and growth of the Respiratory Therapy department and their services. Since assuming leadership, I have developed sources of revenue for the department where there weren't any being captured prior. With my knowledge of hospital interfaces I had gained during my time as Radiology Director, I helped create new electronic workflows that made the team's work more efficient so they could focus on bigger priorities and patient care and spend less time on manual processes. A new orientation and more robust training program was started with regular educational opportunities to keep skills fresh. I acquired new equipment and training for the RT team, adding services and revenue the hospital was previously missing out on. Probably the most unexpected experience in this new role was learning about service lines that were unfamiliar to me, wearing many hats, and working on projects I knew very little about at first. If you told me 2 years ago I'd be presenting to regulatory surveyors about the hospital's air purification program regarding air exchanges per hour and cubic feet per minute hepa filtration systems......I'd laugh! I've truly enjoyed learning, growing, and expanding in my role.

I have scripted radiology protocols and policies, participated in or lead multiple EMR conversions and radiology interface projects, developed a rapidly growing out patient scheduling department and built lasting relationships with referring facilities. Most recently I initiated a partnership with KU Medical facilities on the cutting edge of medical research and am working to start student programs in diagnostic radiology and ultrasound. I manage the day to day operations of the radiology department, encompassing every aspect of business's growth, including staffing, equipment maintenance, negotiating service contracts, reviewing department revenue daily and addressing billing and coding discrepancies, developing a patient experience plan and maintaining a goal of 90% patient satisfaction the past 3 quarters. My role also involves forming quality and performance improvement plans and working with staff to meet set goals. I serve on multiple hospital committees that address patient safety, performance improvement, risk and quality, charge services, coordination with hospitalist and ED physician groups, and radiation safety. I take pride in having created a top rated work environment that staff want to be a part of, with above national average employee engagement scores the past 2 years. All of this and more accomplished despite the significant struggles of a start up hospital and a world wide pandemic.
