In this role I have the opportunity to work with a dynamic field team in Canada's first national park. This role allowed me to perform a wide range of task in both the front and backcountry to support aquatic restoration projects. These tasks include water quality monitoring, stream gauging, habitat surveys, and the mechanical removal of non-native vegetation. So far this summer I have also logged over 100,000 seconds backpack electro-fishing both for fish disease testing and non-native fish removal in the context of a watershed restoration project. Youth Program Coordinator

On the education team at Ottawa Riverkeeper I coordinated a youth environmental leadership program for participants aged 17-25. During this role I created and led weekly workshops on water monitoring and protection; planned engaging outreach opportunities with other local NGO's, organizations and researchers; and coordinated with community members to create enriching networking experiences for youth interested in the environmental sector. Overall during my one year tenure with the program youth contributed over a thousand volunteer hours to help improve their community. Show less

Conservation Placement Student

During this placement I was able to participate in ecological restoration projects including tree planting at an aggregate pit. I also collected water samples for the OPWQMN and for area specific development monitoring projects. When not working in the field I designed bilingual educational resources for elementary and high school students. These resources were combined with land based outdoor educational programing done in partnership with the pathways to stewardship program where I taught students about benthic invertebrates and water quality.
