As one of our UX/UI interns, Amal worked on the designs of our Minimum Viable Product using Figma. She spent a lot of time researching and drawing inspiration for the innovative designs of GatherAid. She was pivotal in designing our first style guide as she worked to create branding around GatherAid. Additionally, she methodically designed the UX of our platform to match the needs of the users. GatherAid is a very complex platform with many nuances, yet Amal was able to simplify the complexity with a well-designed UX. Since the beginning, Amal has been keen on learning something new and performing as efficiently as possible. As she was designing the platform, Amal had an emphasis on intuition and usability. Despite having to redesign many components over several days, she still had extreme attention to detail. To my astonishment, she worked very diligently to ensure the pages were perfect. This is the involvement we praise at GatherAid.

I am currently involved in designing and performing usability tests on the digital platform for GatherAid, a UCL-backed startup that aims to promote collaboration and communication between donors and charities internationally, help donors make more informed decisions about how they donate, and encourage charities to be transparent and accountable. During this role, I have had the opportunity to gain experience in the following: - Creating wireframes - Creating mid-fidelity and hi-fidelity prototypes - Applying Gestalt and Heuristic principles to my designs - Helping to create an effective and intuitive Information Architecture - Formulating tasks and scripts for usability testing - Conducting usability tests, identifying issues and areas of confusion, and suggesting improvements as a result - Creating user personas - Helping to ideate new features and areas of expansion for the organization based upon said personas Show less

I helped to bring my struggling 3rd grade student to higher levels in English, math, and science. I developed lesson plans from scratch that helped to advance my student in all three areas. I helped to imbibe in her confidence and a greater love of learning. I used my creativity and knowledge of teaching principles to come up with explanations that she found lucid and classroom activities which were engaging and made the concepts memorable. Through working closely with her, I was able to target some key cognitive and behavioral patterns that were causing her to fail and address them. My biggest achievements with my student were:- Endowing my student with knowledge and awareness of key phonetic rules- Endowing in my student a greater familiarity with and ability to read non-phonetic words- Bringing my student to a much higher level in her ability to read written text as a result of the two points listed above- Giving my student an essential, holistic understanding of numbers - Giving my student the ability to conceptualize numbers, including large ones- Helping my student to pass exams in the local Jordanian schools, which are known for their challenging curriculums- Increasing my student’s confidence- Transforming my student’s relationship with learning to one of greater enthusiasm and eagerness Show less

Privately taught English to a 2nd grade boy who did not know English. I endowed my student with enthusiasm and excitement about learning English and the ability to say simple phrases during the short period of time that I taught him.
