Generation Engineering
-
May 2023 - Present
Throughout the summer, I worked with my team to pilot a digital twin that models two of Evergy's combustion turbines. I developed many project management, technical, and organizational skills. I grew an understanding of the needs of the project and how I could play I roll in meeting those needs, or finding the right people who could. I pulled major data pulls in order to allow our pilot company to discern which points they wanted to use to backfill this project. There were other project I worked on throughout the summer, such as correcting a heat rate calculation and helped develop dynamic offers for Evergy to use and understand the capabilities of all of our combustion turbines based upon the outside temperature. I additionally had exposure to many types of power generation and saw how chemicals engineers could be assets to a utility! Finally, I worked alongside the emerging technology department to learn a lot about new technologies like bulk energy storage and batteries. Show less

Grader for Chemical Process Analysis
-
Feb 2023 - May 2023
I worked closely with a chemical engineering professor at Kansas State University to grade papers for his class. The class was called Chemical Process Analysis, which was a chemical engineering course I excelled in the semester before. There were roughly 8-10 students in the class, but the assignments had much detail because of process flow diagrams, mass balances, and calculations. With this small class size, I only worked about 2-4 hours a week during the semester, which fit well with the demand of my classes and outside involvement. I learned very quickly how to balance working and school because both had important and strict deadlines throughout the semester. I wanted to respect the time of the students I graded for because they needed their grades inputted to the gradebook and feedback from each assignment to excel on upcoming exams. Show less
