As a government reporting intern, I created an excel tool using various functions that allowed the team to eliminate hours of rework and find possible errors before submission of reports. I led an initiative to streamline our procedures that would allow the team to cross train easily , eliminate old procedures, and ensure no loss of production when team members took leave. I also built and submitted reports regarding our terminals to various government agencies. As an accounting intern for Tesoro this summer, I have conducted informational interviews with various leaders in the different accounting departments to hear about what they do and how they contribute to Tesoro. I have also contributed to their implementation of lean six sigma ideals by leading a project to streamline monthly close procedures in efforts to limit mistakes in these tasks.I ensure the details in these procedures are easily understandable by performing the tasks myself using only the written procedures as a guide. I also help manage Tesoro Foundations by creating the monthly entries needed for the non-profit organization which holds about $10 million dollars. I have also created and uploaded over 100 journal entries in efforts to help the corporate accounting team meet deadlines. Show less

Since I grew up a student of Breakthrough Austin, I thought of no better way to express my thanks to this great program, than by being a teacher for them. As an 8th grade algebra teacher for 20 students, I created and coordinated lesson plans with others in the Math department team that adapted to the different learning styles of our students. I corresponded with parents bi-monthly to arrange meetings covering their student's progress and upcoming events. I supervised and maintained safety of all 20 students in my team and all 250 students during field trips and throughout the day. I mentored four students on possible future goals by holding a college awareness day and offering classes on proper student etiquette, good study habits, tricks to beating test anxiety, etc. As a group, the teachers held weekly trainings with department heads covering teaching tips as well as provided feedback on teaching styles and applied what was taught into the classroom. Lastly, I led a Gratitude & Faculty Support Committee responsible for recognizing and thanking sponsors who help fund our program, who provided buses and field trip opportunities for the kids, and was responsible for supporting fellow teachers Show less
