Through original curriculum design, my courses introduce students to an array of genres, including the novel, poetry, short story, epic, and drama. Throughout the year, students write focused journals and short analytical essays alongside a variety of creative assignments. Both courses also use student writing as a primary text in order to teach grammar, logic, and rhetoric. Class discussion is directed primarily through the Harkness method, and students are taught to privilege questions, close reading, and textual references in their comments. Students are also introduced to research methods and MLA style. Show less
