NeuroNexus is a leading developer and manufacturer of electrode probes utilizing thin film MEM technology. This technology is utilized by research laboratories around the world in advancing brain research. My position at NeuroNexus focuses on the fabrication of neural probes. The Lurie Nanofabrication Facility at the University of Michigan provides the tools and facilities to make neural probes. The probes are silicon based and may incorporate multiple electrodes in a given probe shaft. I employ CVD (chemical vapor deposition), thermal oxidation, photo-lithography, dry and wet etching processes, PVD (physical vapor deposition) and annealing processes to make neural probes.

Trained on Kurt J Lesker LAB 18 sputter-deposition tool. Worked in a "clean room" environment where the fabrication of electronic, opto-electronic, and MEM devices occurred. The LNF facility provides the training of graduate students and faculty from many different universities in the design and development of multiple electronic circuits and MEMS. My General Motors work experience was primarily in vehicle emission testing. I initially performed emission analyzer calibration and repairs at the Detroit Diesel Allison division of General Motors in Detroit and Romulus, Michigan. At Detroit Diesel facilities, diesel engine dynamometer emission testing was done. I transfered to the General Motors Milford Proving Ground to the Current Product Engineering division where the focus was on chassis or vehicle dynamometer emission testing. At Building 31W (the emission certification laboratory, I learned about the various sampling test systems that comprise an emission test site. The job responsibilities was the calibration and repair of the multiple systems that make a an emission vehicel test site. I specialized in the calibration and repair of Horiba emission analyzers. I wrote a troubleshooting procedure for technicians on how to troubleshoot and repair Horiba analyzers. I transfered to another department called the Correlation Quality Control Group. There I verified compliance of Federal vehicle emission calibration standards and related corporate standards through performing audits at General Motors, competitor, and government vehicle emission laboratories in Arizona, California, Colorado, Michigan, and New York. I verified that emission test sites met the calibration and operational procedures needed to achieve both the federally mandated vehicle emission test results and General Motors' standards using emission analyzers, environmental monitors (ambient temperatures, barometric pressure, and dew point), vehicle exhaust collection systems (constant flow volume-venturi), and dynamometers (twin roll and 48-inch AVL and Horiba single roll). This position provided challenges in finding sources of problems at emission test sites. The various calibration and operational data acquired at a test site assisted me in determing any potential source(s) of error that could adversely affect vehicle emission test outcomes.

I performed engineering audits at California and Colorado state emission laboratories, Ann Arbor EPA, and various General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Chrysler emission laboratories across the United States. I verified the calibration and operational readiness of emission test sites. I also performed custom emission tests at corporate and government emission laboratories. At the conclusion of my review I provided a report of my findings to the director of the emission laboratory reviewed.
