This service is paired with social change-related education including seminars, meetings with local activists, and peer-led learning, which have sat me at the same table with some of the most inspiring movers and shakers in the country, allowed me to ask difficult and meaningful questions that spark important and uncomfortable conversations, and contributed to nuanced dialogue surrounding social change in Israel. In my fellowship, I had the opportunity to participate in various projects with IsraAID Germany. I accompanied art therapists in refugee shelters throughout Berlin. I also participated in Kompass, a project which empowers and provides mentoring and skill-building for youth and young adults from refugee communities in Berlin. While in Berlin, I also assisted in planning an event for the IsraAID Germany Hand-in-Hand project. This event brought 40 members of the Yazidi and Jewish communities in Berlin together to connect and build friendships with one another. I also assisted with the social media, publications, and internal logistics of IsraAID Germany while in Berlin. This fellowship abroad gave me a deeper understanding of international development, non-profit work, the refugee crisis, and working with vulnerable communities, especially ones with trauma.
