Much of my time at GAL was spend shadowing my supervisor to court hearings and trials. I was also present for home visits and family team meetings, as well as many client interviews. My responsibilities included: reviewing client files, researching legal issues regarding child and family law, and legal writing. I worked in the Public Benefits and Domestic Violence sections at Utah Legal Services. In Public Benefits I reviewed client files, requested and reviewed medical records, researched and wrote memos to the Social Security Administration, and counseled clients. In Domestic Violence I attended court hearings, conducted legislative legal research, and aided in public education about domestic violence concerns. Youth Worker

I worked in all of the group homes, where youth in the child welfare system stayed while in between placements: Christmas Box House (for children under 12), Boys Group Home, Girls Group Home, and Crisis Residential (short term stay and youth that couldn't be placed in one of the other group homes). I also worked at the Juvenile Receiving Center (youth intake from police and parents). I worked with parents, police, and the youth. I also provided supervision, did intakes, and client file maintenance.
