NDSV for drilling, completion and rig-move activities for SDX Energy Morocco on their 12 well drilling campaign in the Gharb basin, utilising a 1000HP Super Single from Canada, along with Canadian crew. Remote location operation; no established E&P industry; each operation required extensive planning, QA&C, and logistics management. Rig cold-stacked for 12months; organisation, prioritisation and management of re-start and rig up following shipping. Young formations; heavy clays and gumbo with considerable hole problems in 12 1⁄4” and 8 1⁄2” sections. Strict drilling fluid properties and additive regime. Early emphasis on coaching crew on best drilling practices, and SDX Safety Culture. Management and logistics of multiple pads, SIMOPS and fast rig moves. Capturing lessons learned and implementing performance improvement opportunities led to a 36% increase in previous campaign efficiency.

Fast drilling (+250m/hr), and quick rig moves. 311mm to 159mm hole sizes with PDM’s and EM MWD.Texas; 12.25” to 12k ft, 8.75” complex 3D with PDM / RSS. +20k ftMD at TD through the Eagle Ford with DD sliding. Several weeks of interesting U.S. DD RTOC Performance Drilling Optimization work on the Gulf Coast, Permian, and Mid-Con districts; modelling and improving ROP, Vibration analysis, tool usage/life, and procedures with RSS, MRSS, Magnus RSS, and PDM's.Oklahoma; surface through to 8.75" horizontal (+100°inc) with PDM and RSS. ERD and Geosteering, with 26k-ft MD at TD & DD sliding.

Land rigs in all fields of the UAE. Complex formations presented persistent T&D, directional drilling, and hole cleaning problems. Vibration, whirl and drilling mechanics issues were also prevalent. Extremely sour in most areas; particularly the Shah field: 23% H2S. Appreciable re-entry experience requiring confidence to orientate with drop Gyro, set and mill whipstock windows and drill out. Some ERD from the Islands, where hole cleaning and client confidence were tested; increased reliance on DD’s supervisory skills led to performance improvement. 8½” and 6” drilling phases usually completed with ±20% ROP improvement. Strict LP adherence with both PDM and RSS. Geo-steering same through the horizontal.

Jack-up and platform in the Rio del Ray. Extreme AC at surface to ±500mTVD. Jetting required forsurface hole, as well as the orientation of deviated CP’s. Soft formations and gumbo clay presented consistent hole cleaning issues. Constrained platform slot availability required extreme diligence and planning of each phase, as well as confidence to execute. Fastest recorded 12¼” hole for Bowleven/Euroil on Zingana-1.
