I was a member of a 5-person allocation committee that distributes approximately $12 mil/year from Portland property taxes to more than 65 nonprofit programs assisting at-risk children and their families. PCL funds programs that demonstrate positive impact on early childhood, after school and mentoring programs, child abuse/neglect prevention and treatment, and children in foster care. I chaired the Collaboration Committee, which comprised several foundations working to develop and improve systems (parent ed hubs, professional development for after-school programs, etc.) that support nonprofits working with children. Oregon Solutions convenes public and private partners to solve complex community issues. As Program Manager for the Vernonia Schools Project, I convened government, academic, nonprofit and business partners to help Vernonia rebuild its elementary, middle and high schools, which were destroyed in the 1996 and 2007 floods. The new schools not only serve as places of innovative learning while being energy efficient, but also help drive the local economy. See: http://www.orsolutions.org/ http://www.oregonlive.com/opinion/index.ssf/2010/12/replicating_vernonias_success.html I also assisted with initial stages of fundraising planning for the Gateway Green project for Oregon Solutions.
