My role as Business Manager is vital to the leadership and management of General Practice. I utilise my in-depth Primary Care Knowledge to anticipate legislative and operating developments with a view to translating these into tangible business deliverables. I am responsible for ensuring that effective methods are put into place in order for the service to operate efficiently, delivering high quality care to our service users. I have strong leadership and excellent problem solving skills along with an ability to communicate effectively at all levels; adding demonstrable business values, creating new lines of service, reflecting national and regional needs in line with the General Practice forward view. Assistant Practice Manager

I have 10 years’ experience in General Practice management, preceded by 12 years in a commercial pharmacy environment. I feel that this mix is crucial for delivering strategies to meet the current challenges in General Practice. My current role means I have extensive experience in leading a primary care team in a target driven environment. I have developed a monitoring system for the management and analysis of the dispensary finances which includes forecasting income and expenditure. I managed the practice’s transition from EMIS LV to EMIS Web. I have developed an IT action plan, which supports the improvement of patient access and new technologies to drive efficiency. I am proficient in the appraisal process, and regularly review the staffing skill mix, and appointment availability to ensure the practice meets the required appointment profile. I use training needs analysis to identify each individual’s potential, and the development of a robust succession plan. I am highly visible within the Practice and ensure I work with all teams on a regular basis to review workload, and drive quality and improvement through a culture of learning and development. I have experience in managing change through re-profiling the staffing structure to incorporate working across 3 sites. I promote a multidisciplinary team approach to identified areas for improvement to create an inclusive working environment ensuring all employees feel valued. I facilitate the business planning process to deliver the medium and long term goals of the practice. I run tendering processes for the practice, working in conjunction with my clinical colleagues. I have had particular input reviewing QOF and contract changes to assess impact on patient care and practice workload, delivering a programme of change as appropriate. I am a friendly cheerful person and believe a common sense attitude goes a long way. I am enthusiastic, versatile and at my best within a diverse multi-disciplinary team.
