My number one aim is to assist in the the development of the College’s Library Service. I believe that a Library should be the heart of its institution and should underpin all aspects of learning, teaching, curriculum, development and research. In this respect, I work with the Head of Library Services to create and develop a dynamic and innovative Library environment, which is customer focused for students, staff and members of the public. In the Library I assisted in the provision of a proactive and comprehensive library service, providing information and guidance to both internal and external customers which involves interpreting the customer’s need, initiating appropriate service delivery and ensuring effective resolution of their requests. When at the One Stop Shop, I was the first point of contact for customers of Cornwall Council who made personal visits to One Stop Shops to make enquiries about council services. I assisted customers with first level completion of applications for services and to use the Customer Relationship Management system to record the transactions and forward as necessary to the relevant service department. I also handled payment transactions for council services as required, which included supporting customers to use electronic and kiosk payment methods. I initially worked at Wadebridge Library and Wadebridge One Stop Shop for a temporary 7 month contract, which was then extended to cover at Callington Library & Callington OSS, and from there onto Bude and Camelford Libraries. • Upper Primary Librarian
      • Jun 2011 - Jul 2012

The Upper Primary School caters for pupils in Key Stage 2 (Yr.3 – Yr.6). There are five classes in each year group. From the School Management point of view my main responsibility was to provide a 40 Minute time tabled library lesson for each class. Prior to my appointment as Librarian, the lesson was mainly an opportunity for pupils to swap books. During my time in post I introduced a Library Skills work book for each year group which was aimed at enabling pupils to identify, locate and access the information they needed. The Library Skills Work books were used in conjunction with the teaching of transferable information, learning and knowledge access skills which are the core skills of independent lifelong learning. I also developed the empty class room next to the Library into a Learning Resource Centre which now houses a Reference collection and 9 Computer terminals with internet access, along with a Smart-board for teaching purposes such as how to use the Library OPAC and Internet Search skills. My aim of creating the LRC was to provide a study environment for both curriculum-based and independent learning which involved the management and integration of both physical areas and virtual learning environments to create positive learning spaces. I re-organised the existing Library, so that the Non-fiction books flowed in one direction and were distinctly separate from the Fiction. I also created an Enquiry and Issue desk /work area for the Librarian and Library Assistant and a comfortable reading area for quiet reading and story time. To promote the development of reading and literacy skills for information and recreation I introduced A Really Keen Readers Book Club. I also worked on an extensive wall display of recommended books for each Year group, based on books held in the Library. It was rewarding to see the books in the display “flying” off the shelves! • Librarian
      • Aug 1998 - Jul 2002

My priority as the firm’s sole Librarian was to assist in raising professional standards within the firm by providing access for staff to the latest relevant data and reliable information, as well as undertaking the regular requirements of running a specialist library. Initially the job was one day a week which gradually increased to three days a week. When I first started working for CWC, I supplemented my income by doing a range of other part time and short term library jobs with the Environment Agency and Lloyds TSB to name but two Show less
