Perform laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials for such purposes as quality control, process control, or product development. Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures. Determine whether products meet customer specifications and record and report accurate results. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Sets up, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as, chemical balance, scales, spectrophotometer, colorimeter, surface area analyzer and other equipment. - Identifies raw material conditions by collecting material samples, visually inspecting condition, and composite samples of raw materials. - Conducts chemical and physical tests on materials used as ingredients in ceramics, feed, synthetic rubber, paint, and other products for such qualities as chemical composition, purity, color, stability, density, and particle size. - Tests materials for presence and content of elements or substances such as, copper, zinc, lead, cadmium, iron, nickel, tin, aluminum, oil, moisture or impurities. - Collects and tests samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications. - Records test results on work sheets and into the computer. - Cleans and completes preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment. Calibrates laboratory instruments. - Prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas. - Adds chemicals or raw materials to process solutions or product batches to correct or establish formulation required to meet specifications.
