2D materials are crystalline solids that consist of a single layer of atoms. 2D materials have shown promise in use in optoelectronic technology as well as for quantum information science. Due to being composed of only a single layer of atoms, 2D materials are still largely difficult to produce at scale, making commercialization difficult. This project aims to explore a method of production of 2D materials through micromechanical exfoliation from a bulk layered crystal to produce monolayered flakes using Au-assisted methods. Limits of exfoliation methods have been found to be low scalability and throughput, however Exfoliation using materials whose fermi levels fall within partially filled bands composed mostly of s and p electrons help mitigate dimensional limits of ME. Au is a promising choice due to its stability in air and low chemical reactivity. I am exploring transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), specifically MoS2 and WSe2. Proficient in... - AFM - Quanta SEM - Photoluminescence Spectroscopy - Raman Spectroscopy - Plasma Cleaning - Scotch tape exfoliation - Physical Vapor Deposition - Glove box use - Level-100 Clean room protocols Show less

Gathering data on microstructure evolution in Cu/SiO2 hybrid bonding in hopes of maintaining Moore’s law scaling through 3D integration of wafers without the use of microbumps. This project addresses the effects of bonding parameters in order to have a better understanding of the controlling bonding mechanisms and increase computing power for the use in artificial intelligence. Collecting data on the movement of piezoelectric materials in a scanning tunneling microscope at different temperatures. This is achieved through image processing MATLAB software and images taken through an STM by using known lattice constants to determine the difference in the pictured distance change versus real distance change-Proficient in MATLAB and data analysis

Conducted experiments to evaluate the performance of new Si(Li) detectors in hopes of upgrading the fInternal conveRsion Electron Ball (fIREBALL). This is in order to measure conversion electrons for gamma rays depopulating an excited nucleus to reveal the multipolarity and character of gamma rays shedding light on nuclear structure. Found that these new detectors were 20% less efficient than the older detectors and therefore ran several tests to determine the cause behind this efficiency loss Conducted experiments to evaluate the performance of new Si(Li) detectors in hopes of upgrading the fInternal conveRsion Electron Ball (fIREBALL).
