As a first and second grade teacher, I plan, design, and develop lessons that are differentiated and engaging to all students in my class. I work in a very diverse school and have many students who are on the free/reduced cost lunch program, as well as ELL students. I work hard to incorporate small group learning, as well as whole group mini lessons to minimize the amount of "sit time" my students have to do. Collaboration is key to me and I have been lucky to have great collaborative teaching partners, as well as Professional Learning Communities (PLC). I have done extensive work in balanced literacy through PD, as well as PLC work. I also have participated in the TLA (Teacher Leader Academy) through University of Washington in Math to incorporate other mathematical activities and practices to promote conceptual understanding. I consistently look for new professional development opportunities to inform my practice and help my students through better teaching practices. I have served on the Building Leadership Team (BLT) at my school, and currently am on the Literacy Team and the MTSS Team (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support). I enjoy these team opportunities as they strengthen me as a teacher. Show less

Taught an academically diverse 5th grade class, alongside 7 other 5th grade teachers. This required a lot of collaborative teamwork to come to mutual decisions that impacted 8 classrooms. This planning included differentiated instruction in math and reading with a "walk to" model. Within the classroom, differentiated lessons were provided to students with varying academic proficiencies. Participated in a PLC on writers workshop to help inform our writing instruction and student learning. Taught an academically diverse 5th grade class, alongside 7 other 5th grade teachers.
