I work on the Bernoulli Optimizer software project. Bernoulli Optimizer software, developed by Potentia Analytics, uses sophisticated modeling and machine learning techniques to simulate and optimize the flow of patients through a healthcare system. My work includes: Developing machine learning models to make predictions regarding inpatient length of stay, arrivals and wait times as well as determining feature importance in these models, writing algorithms for custom metrics and extending the functionality of existing algorithms, conducting statistical analysis to assess the risk of overstaying and to quantify relationships between subgroups using survival models and hypothesis testing techniques, parsing HL7 messages and cleaning datasets to prepare for analyses, running discrete event simulation models to analyze some effects on patient throughput such as staffing and hospital capacity, and training clients on the use of IBM Cloud Pak's Watson Studio and the Bernoulli Optimizer to empower them to use machine learning and discrete event simulations to make data driven decisions.
