  In the initial few weeks of this placement I taught the Year 2 (6-7yr olds) class in the school English lessons, deploying behaviour management and teaching strategies effectively. After Christmas the UK abruptly closed schools in the lockdown. This has meant I have had to quickly adapt to the schools system of alternating 1 week of setting home learning teaching and 1 week going into school to support the Key Worker children. I have effectively been managing the teaching for my class, with the support of the Teacher, Headteacher and Staff in the school. This has hugely developed my confidence in many teaching areas such as: communicating with the parents in the year appropriately; setting differentiated home learning activities; proving each child in the class with formative and summative feedback which will benefit their development; having a secure knowledge of teaching the curriculum over a unit of work.

  Owing to COVID-19, this placement was completed remotely, approved by the QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) board. I took initiative during this placement to interview a variety of Staff from the school such as the SENco Lead, HLTA's, LA team, other Staff teacher's in order to gain experience on good practice in school and the processes undertaken for these. Working with a teacher in Year 5 enabled me to gain sufficient KS2 subject knowledge experience with regular evaluations on how to improve my planning.

  I spent this placement working in Year 2 with 6-7 year olds. Over this time I gained teaching experience, working alongside the class teacher to start and then teaching the class independently. I gained a greater understanding of the National Curriculum and producing lesson plans which met the standards of teaching for the school. On reflection of my time in this school the class teacher noted "Alice has shown an understanding of the need to promote high standards in communication, reading, writing and numeracy"
