To whom it may concern, It is with great pleasure that I recommend Ali Bijani for pursuing a career as an architectural engineer at your office. I came to know Ali over the past three academic years during his studies in the MSc programme of Building Technology, first as his teacher in structural design courses and then as the first mentor in his MSc thesis. Prior to his thesis work, I taught Ali during another course in my capacity as a structural design mentor, namely the SWAT studio. SWAT is the final design studio of the Building Technology track prior to graduation, where students are free to develop their own concept. For his graduation Ali developed a method for digital manufacturing of a reinforcement system in a freeform concrete structure, based on a 3D printing process of continuous fibre. During his graduation Ali demonstrated that he is able to work on all relevant scale levels that an architectural engineer encounters throughout the design process. His scripts for a computational and parametric optimization were very good. Ali also elaborated his method in in terms of makeability, thus demonstrating his capabilities as a detail engineer. From the beginning, Ali was methodical in his work, studying thoroughly all aspects of the problem and paying attention to each detail of his method. Throughout his work Ali demonstrated a critical engineering approach. During his studies at the Building Technology master track I had the opportunity to witness Ali’s continuous advancements in skills and knowledge that turned him to a sound architectural engineer. Ali is an enthusiastic and passionate for his work. He has a strong problem solving ability. Ali is very independent at his work. He has an open attitude that is also expressed through his excellent communication and presentation skills. Ali is a hard-working, committed and open-minded person. Equally importantly Ali is pleasant to work with.
