  At M51, I work with a team of engineers in designing an air brake system that controls the drag characteristic of the rocket in real time to reach a target apogee. Currently, we have multiple prototype proofs of concept and have been awarded $200 from NewSpace Chicago. Over the 2022 summer, as part of a small team, I helped design, construct, and successfully static-fire test a proprietary nitrous-paraffin wax hybrid engine. This academic year, we are set to launch a 10 000 ft solid motor rocket equipped with our air brake. New for 2023: I also co-lead a group of new members in building their own fiberglass model rockets and designing a custom payload suite of sensors. Show less

  With the Galaxy Dynamics research team, I spent 4 months learning about astronomy, useful Python packages, and the process of research. My research project involved determining the viability of using red giants as distance gauges by visualizing their abundance and distribution in simulated galaxies. Using Python, I manipulated and filtered millions of data points (stars) to select candidates. Parts I worked on: - Researched fluid optimization to improve lubrication and strengthen the engine shaft. - Taught myself mesh modeling on Solidworks to create casings that contoured fast-rotating fins. - Manufactured stator fins. - Iterated on jet engine assembly to improve its accuracy.
