Experience

Providing highly experienced press, copywriting, and social media strategy and support for a range of businesses - big and small.

The Hoxby Collective is a curated community of freelancers from around the world offering expertise across PR, Marketing, Finance and HR.

Digital Mums is an online education expert specialising in upskilling mums with in-demand social media and digital skills so they can find rewarding work that works around their families. As Head of Communications, my role is to increase brand awareness and drive leads for Digital Mums' courses. As a small business with a small team, my remit covers all areas of the communications spectrum, including devising the comms strategy, creating social media and press campaigns, developing messaging for use across all departments (sales, marketing and delivery), drafting blog, press and website copy, identifying and establishing influencer and industry relations and event management. Highlights include: - Working with BBC 1's The One Show to film a behind the scenes feature on Digital Mums - Designing and implementing Digital Mums’ #CleanUpTheFWord campaign to stop flexible work being seen as a dirty word by businesses. This gained over 50 pieces of press coverage including Metro, Red and The Pool; over 2,800 new social media followers; the backing of influencers and business leaders, including the Mayor of London and the EHRC; 3,500 signatures on a petition to change the government's definition of flexible working; and a 30% increase in email sign-ups to our courses. - Working with leading advertising agency, Iris, to bring our #CleanUpTheFWord campaign to life on motorway billboards and shopping centres screens across the UK - free of charge! - Establishing relationships with big-name social media influencers to get Digital Mums’ message out to wider audiences - Pitching and writing features for the likes of Red, Metro, Marie Claire and Campaign - Designing and delivering Digital Mums’ #WorkThatWorks Research Report. Coverage appeared in 50 titles including Metro, Red, Daily Telegraph, The Pool and LBC; our Tweetchat trended at #3 and the campaign drove more traffic to the Digital Mums’ website than any time in the company’s history Show less

In-house role heading up PR, social media and Internal Comms for FinTech start-up and business e-lender Everline (now Ezbob). Working with Everline from launch, I helped take it from a little known start-up to one that attracted big-name investors and column inches in a range of national, tech and business press as well as recognition from government, industry bodies and analysts. This was achieved through a programme of thought-leadership features, background briefings, creative news campaigns, and events, including the Everline Future 50, produced in conjunction with Real Business magazine to celebrate small businesses challenging the traditional ways of thinking in their field. In-house role responsible for increasing understanding of one of the UK’s most well-known & controversial brands. A key highlight was leading Wonga’s biggest cross-communications campaign (social, digital, ATL and PR) to put the unheard voice of its customers across by commissioning a BAFTA-nominated director to produce an unedited film about them. This gained 400 pieces of coverage, front page of the Financial Times, 22 live and pre-recorded interviews across all major news channels and positive to neutral pieces from some of Wonga’s biggest detractors. Because of its public impact, the BFI also requested the film for permanent preservation in its Archive. Show less

In-house maternity cover role responsible for protecting and promoting comparethemarket.com’s brand reputation primarily through amplification of the company's hugely successful advertising campaign, featuring the much-loved and much-pampered meerkat, Aleksandr Orlov. This included managing Aleksandr Orlov’s Social Media campaigns with the objective to engage 800,000+ Facebook fans and 500,000 Twitter followers in order to increase brand loyalty and convert fans to customers.

An in-house role responsible for promoting Thomas Cook’s breadth of holiday brands, 800+ retail stores, Thomas Cook Sport, Cruise Thomas Cook and London 2012 partnership. As part of a 24-7 busy press office, which included on-call duties out of hours, rapidly became confident in drafting reactive and proactive statements and speaking to national TV, Radio and print media at all hours of the day and night in order to minimise any potential negative coverage that could impact on the brand and share price. As the on-call press officer, this included managing the positive coverage of Thomas Cook’s ‘Rescue Programmes’ in response to the 2011 Tunisian Riots and keeping journalists - and customers - updated on the effects of the 2010 Volcanic Ash cloud disruption.
