      • May 2020 - Aug 2020

During the summer of 2020, I engaged in an experiential learning internship with Latina Republic (latinarepublic.com). The internship consisted of writing stories on Latin America. I chose to focus my efforts on Central America, and specifically on the countries of Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panamá. Long before my internship, I noticed the critical exclusion that Central America(ns) faced in United Statian media; Coverage seldom highlights Central American triumphs. “What is mainstream media instilling in United Statians if they only disseminate superficial, negative coverage on Central America?” is what I asked myself over the course of my internship. The totality of my work from this summer aims to disseminate Central American stories that claim equal amounts of negativity and positivity. Negativity due to the continued state-backed repression that Central Americans face on the daily, positivity due to the protest and social movements that Central Americans organize against these states on the daily.
