  Calpine corporation owns and operates a fleet of gas fired power plants in US and Canada. The group I work in is responsible for developing, deploying and maintaining thermal models to support plant dispatch, monitoring equipment health, tracking degradation and troubleshooting. The specific areas are: - performance prediction tools used in fleet budgeting and dispatch - determination and tracking major process/power equipment degradation - performance testing and optimization - models for new power plant designs and major upgrades and retrofits - gas turbine model decks for the company’s fleet To accomplish the above tasks, over the years has acquired expertise in the following software packages: -Thermal analysis - EBSILON®Professional, GateCycle, NPSS - Optimization - ModelCenter, Lingo - Data analysis - R, Tableau - Mathematical – Matlab and Octave - APR tools - PRISM The group is also very active in development of in-house software tools and extension and customization of commercial tools.
