Throughout my post-graduate studies at the Geological Sciences Department, I taught and assisted with several undergraduate level courses. Tasks included assisting students with microscope work, rock and mineral identification, learning computer software, marking student assignments and assisting groups of students with mapping in the field. Courses I tutored included: Introduction to Geology, Volcanology, Igneous Petrology, Ore Mineralogy and Field studies. I also carried out laboratory based work to assist with various geological research projects, such as preparation of samples for geochemical analysis.

The title of my thesis was Shifting eruption styles during the emergence of Akaroa strato-shield volcano, Banks Peninsula, New Zealand. This research focused on the description and identification of volcanic rocks on the inner shore-platforms of Akaroa harbor. With the aim of identifying styles of volcanism and producing a model of development for the early stages of the volcanic complex. Techniques used were, extensive field mapping using air photos, GPS and Arc GIS, detailed stratigraphic logging and a large sampling campaign for petrological description and geochemical analysis.

As part of a team of geoscientists, led by a Senior Geophysicist, I conducted ground geophysical surveys with the aim of delineating near-surface faulting related to the Christchurch 2010 to 2012 earthquake swarm. I also carried out data entry, GPS mapping of the survey area and equipment maintenance.
