Delivering CQC’s data science strategy encompasses a wide range of work: Analysis/Development - I support the analysis for CQC’s national reports and support ad-hoc internal and external analysis/tool development. This can be anything from a one-off piece of analysis or a tool that can be used and kept up-to-date into the future, e.g. chatBots or interactive mapping. My primary focuses being GIS (graphics, tools, and geospatial statistics) and automation of outputs. Using systems and tools such as R (e.g. data manipulation, Shiny, Leaflet), ArcMap (including Python), MS Excel (VBA), and OBIEE. Strategy – I work with teams across my organisation and externally, e.g. Office of National Statistics and Healthwatch England, working with them to imagine all that is possible with data, assess what is feasible, and develop an execution plan. Inline with government data strategy I explore open source software, for instance, testing the capabilities of RStudio (leaflet and Shiny apps) to replace our dependency on rigid proprietary software e.g. ArcMap. Training – I enjoy working to up-skill colleagues; through the leadership/mentoring/training sessions in GIS and coding. Additionally, I have created and present data science awareness sessions (Art of the Possible) that familiarise the wider organisation to working with data to give value to organisational problems.
