Joining in February 2013 at 19 years old, I applied for the RN straight out of school. I passed all requirements to join but had to wait a couple of years before my entry date. I joined as a warfare specialist and completed my initial 10 weeks basic training before moving on to my trade training. By August 2013 I was fully qualified and I streamlined as an Underwater warfare specialist (Sonar operator) and went on to join my first ship HMS St Albans, where I would spend the next 4 years. In that time me and the crew bought the ship out of refit, got her back to sea and completed a long period of sea trials getting the ship back operational. We completed many naval exercises over the course of a few years traveling to different seas and places across Europe, before deploying for 9 months on operation to the Gulf. Not long after deployment in early 2017 I left HMS St Albans to go on my promotion course which I completed and passed successfully before joining HMS Kent in early 2018 for a short period of time. Since then I have worked for officer recruitment. teaching potential officer candidates everything they need to know to succeed in passing selection to become a naval officer. In the Royal Navy I have: - Operated complex weapon systems including Mk44 mini guns, GPMGs and SA80 rifles. - Operated different types of Sonar systems used For tracking submarines. - Operated Radar systems to track hostile targets and to ensure ships safety in busy shipping areas. - Maintained the general up keep of a warship. - Carried out General seamanship tasks to ensure the smooth operation of a war ship. - Passed on my knowledge and all I have learnt to assist others.
