Alex's enthusiasm is infectious! I had the pleasure of doing coach training with him and every time he coached me, I left the session feeling positive and motivated. He's an interested listener who will move you towards actions when needed.

Owner of a fast-growing LinkedIn group 'Careers in the charity/nonprofit sector' http://www.linkedin.com/groups/Careers-in-charity-nonprofit-sector-7453891/about - which I set up because so many people were asking me about Charity career advice from both inside and outside the sector and I thought it would be useful for people to be able to network and ask each other questions. Through speeches, networking and blogs (such as here http://talent.charityjob.co.uk/?p=157 and here http://alexswallow.wordpress.com/2014/02/18/charityworks-everyone-who-cares-about-charities-should-know-it/ ) I try to promote the charity sector as an exciting career for brilliant, caring people. http://alexswallow.com/social-good/young-charity-trustees/ I founded 'Young Charity Trustees'- (our LinkedIn group currently has more than 3000 members) both to support others in my situation and to encourage more young people to become Trustees. Here is an article http://www.civilsociety.co.uk/governance/blogs/content/10571/promoting_the_idea_of_younger_trustees I have built links with other organisations and I try to publicise their good work as well. Through this role I have twice been an expert on online panels (via the Guardian) discussing Trusteeship and charitable giving for young people. The group is now also on Twitter @YoungTrustees with more than 8000 followers and Facebook http://www.facebook.com/YoungTrustees I have taken on speaking opportunities with this role, for example at a JCI London event encouraging Trusteeship, and at an event organised by Charityworks and the Small Charities Coalition. There have been 4 volunteers for the organisation who I have managed. YCT is supported by a brilliant collection of around 20 YCT Ambassadors I work to support young people in finding Trustees roles and with organisation, both to support them in finding young Trustees and to provide training and induction for those young people who express an interest. Young Charity Trustees has provided young Trustee inductions/training to Trailblazers Mentoring and Street League and advised a range of other charities. I also ran a seminar in Wales on the issue for WCVA. I have shadowed the Chief Executive of a charity in order to build up my skills. A paper of mine was handed out at the first ever International Young Governors' Summit, held in Toronto June 2013. For our second Anniversary I set up a Thunderclap which attained a social reach of more than 700,000 people. Have met with Nick Hurd, the Minister for Civil Society to talk about Board issues in the sector.

I served as a mentor for a participant two years running and was a Social Action Campaign Mentor in my second year. http://www.uprising.org.uk/node/537 I provided regular, structured meetings plus ad-hoc support, and have also attended UpRising events in Parliament and elsewhere. The programme has the leaders of all three major British political parties as its patrons. I also help to spread the word about the programme through social media and my networks, including finding potential speakers/contacts. I sat on the panel for an event telling Programme participants about opportunities for young people (Trusteeship in my case). I also gave training about being on a Board to the Emerging Leaders Advisory Board. UpRising is now a separate entity distinct from The Young Foundation.
