    • PhD student: constrained extraction of dynamic subgraphs
      • Oct 2021 - Present

We propose a new approach based on dynamic graphs in order to extract regularities. The potential applications concern the tactical analysis of team sports (e.g. handball) as well as the discovery of regularities in the activation sequences of brain areas. Two very different application contexts motivate the development of ambitious methods for the search of regularities in these dynamic graphs. On the one hand, the digitization of human activities, recently extended to sports practices, provides us with large amounts of data, in particular dynamic data related to players' positions. In the literature, these data are used for the analysis of individual aspects of coordination and agility, strength and power, endurance and cognition. However, the opportunity to explore the collective aspects of sport practice is left aside. Capturing conceptual information (who does what, when, where?) is essential to describe and model the game scenarios explored by players, in training or in competition. The identification of classes of similar situations would be an undeniable advantage over the opposing team. On the other hand, we have dynamic data which are traces of activation of multiple brain areas. The chronological aspects of these measurements and the temporal evolution of the induced structures are not analyzed because the diagnosis of cerebral pathologies is limited to the analysis of static situations. Taking into account the dynamic nature of the relations between cerebral areas would compensate for this limitation. Although the two contexts of this work are very different, the development of methods based on dynamic graphs provides a unifying and fruitful framework. Thesis Director: François Rioult
