    • Post-Baccaleureate
      • Aug 2019 - Aug 2020

For the 2019/20 academic year at Knox College, I served as a Post-Baccalaureate for the Knox College Psychology department. My primary duty was as a teaching assistant for professor and licensed therapist Sara O’Brien. I assisted in the creation and modification of college-level course content, lead review sessions, facilitated discussions and activities, and assisted with grading. This experience further developed my leadership skills as well as my understanding of psychopathology. This hands-on experience with implementing and teaching psychotherapeutic techniques has left me very comfortable discussing sensitive or personal information.

    • Tele Ambassador
      • Jun 2019 - Aug 2019

This position required contacting prospective Knox College students to gauge their interest, answer their questions, and promote the school. I was required to maintain reliable knowledge of the application process and frequently asked questions. I was communicating via phone and email for hours on end with people I knew very little about. In face of the frustration that can come with this type and volume of communication, I learned to balance it in such a way that I could remain enthusiastic and alert.

    • Marketing and Operations Coordinator
      • Sep 2016 - Aug 2020

After working two years as an office assistant for the Knox Galesburg Symphony, I applied for and received the role of Marketing and Operations Coordinator. My most important duties involve communicating with the Executive Director, Conductor and musicians to assure that all of the logistical components of each performance run smoothly. This position has significantly developed my graphic design, communication, scheduling, writing and organizational skills. I write press releases, maintain an active social media presence, manage extensive records of personal data, design posters and brochures using Adobe InDesign, and am regularly required to handle unforeseen situations while always maintaining a positive attitude about this wonderful organization. Because of the extensive amount of communication involved with this position, I have become very adept at delivering concise, accurate information in a friendly and helpful manner.

    • Office Assistant
      • Sep 2016 - May 2019

As an office assistant for the Knox Galesburg Symphony I organized data on our clients and donors, catalogued sheet music and assisted with various tasks around the office. I also helped assemble and strike performance spaces before and after Knox Galesburg Symphony performances. This job was administrative in nature and required meticulous attention to detail and many hours of organizational work. While I was usually required to work independently, I was also often called upon for more collaborative work with my supervisors.

I completed a 40 hour training in order to volunteer at Safe Harbor. This training covered the nature of domestic violence and specifically addressed the skills necessary for working with survivors of domestic violence. After completing the training, I helped with whatever was needed. This included going to court every Wednesday to assist with requests for Orders of Protection and No-Stalking Orders, handling and organizing paperwork, and providing emotional support to our clients. I also helped out at The Purple Hanger, a second-hand store run by Safe Harbor that helps provide gently used items to families affected by domestic violence. In addition, I co-facilitated group therapy sessions. Additionally, I have been on call for their crisis line for several hours per week since August of 2018. Working the crisis line requires the ability to quickly respond to the needs and concerns of those being affected by domestic violence, and has honed my over-the-phone communication abilities.

    • Resident Assistant
      • Sep 2016 - May 2018

The RA position required constant preparedness to respond quickly and elegantly to unexpected (and sometimes very serious) situations. My primary role was to monitor my residents and check in regularly as they dealt with the difficult transition to college. Often this entailed modeling good behavior for my residents while giving them space, but I also provided explicit advice and counseling in everything from small academic stressors to severe trauma. I dealt with emergency situations that required interactions with paramedics and reliable knowledge of my residents’ behaviors; I helped struggling students create and implement plans to improve their academic, financial and personal lives; I had to manage this job on top of the stress in my own life from being a highly involved college student with two Majors.

    • Main Camp Counselor
      • Jun 2017 - Aug 2017

For this 11-week position, I worked very intimately with people with various intellectual and physical disabilities in a camp setting. I provided personal care, behavior management, counsel, and an opportunity for self-expression and pleasure. I also assisted nurses in administering medication. I had to juggle the diverse needs of my campers, keep track of their behavior plans and medical needs, and handle emergency situations as they arose. Being a caregiver 6 days a week for 2-4 campers (many of whom had significant behavioral, physical and intellectual disabilities) required constant attention and care, and prepared me for future work with this population.

This job required quick responses to unexpected conflict amid a fast-paced, high-stress work environment. The position offered a lot of experience in maintaining a friendly, customer-first attitude, while juggling many tasks and staying highly focused. I left (on good terms) due to attending college in another state. This job required quick responses to unexpected conflict amid a fast-paced, high-stress work environment.
