Devops/SRE and Backend Rails Engineer SnappyTV
-
Aug 2017 - Oct 2019
I was contracted as a mostly backend Rails engineer but assumed the role of sole SRE on the project when the previous moved to another team. I've worked heavily with Puppet maintaining 200 static and 1000 dynamic AWS instances (over 9 AWS regions) for SnappyTV, about 20 or so different server roles. Tickets have including upgrading the application to TLS (SSL), migrating to new AWS instance sizes and to VPC from Classic (via Terraform which I implemented), significant with with AMI creation and… Show more I was contracted as a mostly backend Rails engineer but assumed the role of sole SRE on the project when the previous moved to another team. Worked heavily at the intersection of our infrastructure and application code, often working both sides simultaneously to achieve desired results. Over the period my work saved Twitter at least $1M on AWS fees alone. Sole SRE and on-call 100% for duration. Handle all systems and often (rotation) application related production issues. Resolved challenging and critical system down/impairment situations. 100% remote work with occasional office visits.
